The global law firm Jones Day has announced that four lawyers have joined the Firm in its Banking & Finance Practice and will be based in its Irvine Office. All four lawyers arrived from the Orange County office of Snell & Wilmer, where they were members of that firm’s Commercial Finance Practice.

Gregory M. Carpenter and Joseph L. Coleman joined Jones Day as partners, Carol Wong Su joined the Firm as of counsel, and Annie Hu joined as an associate.

Mr. Carpenter has extensive experience representing national and regional financial institutions in structuring, negotiating, and documenting both secured and unsecured transactions throughout the country, ranging in size from $1 million to several hundred million dollars. His core practice also includes the workout and restructuring of distressed loans and the enforcement of obligations secured by single projects and multiproperty, multijurisdiction collateral pools. Mr. Carpenter’s work focuses on asset-based and real estate financing transactions, including acquisition and development loans, construction loans, bridge loans, mezzanine loans, participating/contingent interest loans, multi-property revolving credit facilities, tenant-in-common credit facilities, working capital lines of credit, equipment lines of credit, syndications, participations, and other intercreditor transactions. His experience includes financing a wide variety of real estate assets, including residential developments, affordable housing and redevelopment projects, residential and commercial condominium projects, office and industrial buildings, retail centers, golf courses, sports facilities, and hotels. Mr. Carpenter earned his law degree from New York University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Northeast Louisiana University.

Mr. Coleman concentrates in the areas of commercial finance and real estate. His experience includes financing a variety of commercial properties, such as shopping centers, hotels, office buildings, golf courses, hospitals, and other health care facilities. Mr. Coleman has also represented lenders and developers in the financing of single and multifamily housing developments. In addition, he has assisted California’s premier lenders and developers in structuring, documenting, and closing secured and unsecured lines of credit and multiproperty revolving facilities. His experience extends to the field of public finance, where he has represented developers and the providers of credit enhancement in connection with the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt bonds which have been used to finance apartments, industrial facilities, hospitals, and major infrastructural improvements. Mr. Coleman has also handled the workout, restructuring, and enforcement of a host of secured and unsecured credit facilities. He earned his law degree from Temple University and his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago.

Ms. Su’s work is concentrated in commercial and public finance. She has extensive experience representing financial institutions in structuring, negotiating, and documenting secured and unsecured transactions including loan portfolio transactions; lines of credit; syndicated loans; real estate financings for office, retail, and residential developments; payoff agreements; purchase and sale transactions; and workouts. Ms. Su also advises and assists lenders in restructuring distressed loans, foreclosures, and other related matters, and represents financial institutions as the letter of credit provider, the bond purchaser, the bridge lender, the permanent lender, and the construction lender in tax-exempt bond financings of low-income housing projects. She earned her law degree from U.C. Davis School of Law, her master of science degree from U.C. Davis, and her undergraduate degree from U.C. Irvine.

Ms. Hu focuses her practice in commercial finance and real estate. She earned her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law and her undergraduate degree from U.C. Irvine.
