DLA Piper announced today that Mark Riera has joined the firm’s Litigation practice as a partner in the Los Angeles office.
Riera is a trial and appellate lawyer with experience in a broad array of industries, including motor vehicles, banking, pharmaceuticals, and transportation. He has successfully defended clients against allegations of price fixing, wage and hour violations, and securities fraud. He has litigated class and individual actions in federal courts across the country, in 23 state courts, in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and the US Supreme Court. (more…)
Fenwick & West announced today that Michael Dicke, most recently the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Associate Regional Director for Enforcement in San Francisco, is joining the firm as a partner in its securities litigation practice. Dicke will co-chair the Securities Enforcement group to focus on advising boards and management on SEC defense, compliance and internal investigations and to represent regulated entities and individuals in SEC and other government investigations and litigation.
During his 17-year tenure at the SEC, Dicke supervised or conducted hundreds of investigations involving every major subject area of the SEC’s enforcement program, including financial reporting and disclosure, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), insider trading, Regulation FD, and regulation of hedge funds, investment advisers and broker-dealers. As the head of enforcement for the San Francisco office since 2008, Mike led over 40 professionals in investigating and litigating SEC matters in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Continuing to grow its intellectual property practice, Rimon, P.C. has added Neil A. Smith as a partner in its San Francisco and Palo Alto offices.
Prior to joining Rimon, Mr. Smith was a partner at several prominent firms, including IP boutique firm Limbach & Limbach. He most recently served as the first Administrative Patent Judge on the Patent Trial and Appeal Board for the US Patent & Trademark Office’s Silicon Valley Satellite Office. The PTAB handles appeals within the Patent Office and a host of post-grant patent proceedings, Post Grant Reviews, and Business Method Patent challenges, which are increasingly important in patent enforcement and defense strategy. Cooley is advising Ambit Biosciences on its agreement to be acquired by Daiichi Sankyo Company, Ltd. for approximately $315 million on a fully diluted basis. In addition to the upfront cash payment, each Ambit Biosciences stockholder will receive one Contingent Value Right (CVR), entitling the holder to receive an additional cash payment of up to $4.50 for each share they own if certain commercialization related milestones are achieved. Barnes & Thornburg announced today that Rebekah Prince has joined the firm’s Corporate Department as a partner in the Los Angeles office. Previously, Prince was a partner at Eisner Jaffe Gorry Chapman & Ross LLP, where she was Chair of the firm’s Corporate Department.
Prince focuses her practice on an extensive range of corporate matters, with an emphasis on merger and acquisitions and franchise and distribution law. She has experience representing buyers, sellers and investment advisors in connection with financings, mergers and acquisitions of private and public companies. She also has been involved in the structuring and closing of multi-million dollar acquisitions of franchise systems and large-scale portfolio purchases and sales of franchised and company-operated outlets.
