Bankruptcy and transactional finance attorneys Mikel R. Bistrow and Christopher Celentino have joined Ballard Spahr as partners in San Diego, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today. Ms. Bistrow and Mr. Celentino have extensive experience in insolvency and finance matters and are consistently ranked at the top of their profession for their work in business reorganizations and financial transactions.

Ms. Bistrow and Mr. Celentino practice debtor/creditor work from filing to wind-down, focusing on initial acquisition and finance transactions in corporate mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, and real estate; straightforward and complex commercial litigation in both state and federal courts; credit and loan restructuring; real and personal property secured transactions; and debtor, trustee, and receivership courtroom work.

“We opened the San Diego office in 2010 with a talented group of litigators who focus primarily on white collar defense, regulatory enforcement, receiverships, and complex litigation,” Mr. Stewart said. “We have since bolstered our government enforcement and investigations capability there. Mikel and Chris add a new dimension with their extensive knowledge and experience in bankruptcy law and transactional finance.”

Ms. Bistrow practices in the areas of commercial finance and lending, real and personal property secured transactions, Uniform Commercial Code, creditor’s collection and related remedies, bankruptcy, insolvency, and workouts. Her finance practice emphasizes representing lenders and borrowers in documenting and negotiating real and personal property loans and secured transactions, including revolving lines of credit, asset-backed loans, securitized credits, and construction financing.

Mr. Celentino focuses on creditor rights, fiduciary services litigation, business reorganization and workouts, and insolvency and bankruptcy law. His bankruptcy practice emphasizes the representation of creditors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases; court-appointed trustees in Chapter 7 and 11 cases; and debtors in select Chapter 11 cases. Mr. Celentino has significant knowledge and experience in family law and related dissolution matters; mechanic’s lien law and construction litigation matters; and supplier/vendor contract disputes.
