Cooley is growing its trademark, copyright & advertising practice with the addition of Bobby Ghajar, who joins the firm as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Ghajar arrives from Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw & Pittman, where he was partner and head of the firm’s worldwide trademark practice.

“Bobby is a phenomenal trademark and copyright litigator, whose tenacity and prowess in the courtroom will be a boon for our tech clients,” said Michael Rhodes, co-chair of Cooley’s privacy & data security practice, who last year worked alongside Ghajar on a major trademark litigation on behalf of Cooley client Oculus VR. “Bobby already works with many of our clients on their trademark matters – it couldn’t be a better fit.”

In the Oculus VR case, which Law360 highlighted as one of the year’s most important trademark cases, Ghajar collaborated with a Cooley team that prevailed on summary judgment, just a few days before trial. Ghajar specializes in advising leading companies in trademark, trade dress, copyright, right of publicity and false advertising litigation. He has handled dozens of high‐stakes litigation and appellate matters across the country for some of the top companies in the world, including existing Cooley clients such as eBay and Facebook. Several of his cases have led to important precedent in trademark and copyright matters.

Complementing his litigation practice, Ghajar has provided major clients around the world with counseling, ranging from clearance and prosecution in nearly 200 jurisdictions, to the creation of brand guidelines and enforcement strategies. He has managed some of the largest international trademark portfolios and settled numerous multi-jurisdictional disputes.

“Cooley’s trademark, copyright & advertising group is incredibly strong, with one of the busiest IP dockets in the country and advises not only the world’s largest companies, but the next generation of exciting, emerging companies,” Ghajar said. “I’m eager to contribute toward its continued global success.”

“Cooley has become a global force in major litigation matters involving cutting edge technology, complex legal issues, and bet-the-company stakes,” said Mike Attanasio, chair of the firm’s litigation department. “I’m thrilled that our thriving practice is growing further with the addition of Bobby, whose powerful skillsets will add a new dimension to our winning teams around the globe.”

The World Trademark Review 1000 has recognized Ghajar for both his litigation and trademark counseling experience; Law360 named him one of the top young talents in IP; Managing Intellectual Property magazine has named him an IP Star; and on multiple occasions the Daily Journal has named him one of the Top 75 IP Litigators in California.
