DLA Piper announced today that Linda Smith, nationally recognized as a top woman litigator, has joined the firm’s Litigation practice as a partner in the Los Angeles office.

Smith represents Fortune 500 and other distinguished companies in high-stakes and complex litigation across a variety of industries, including healthcare (insurance companies and hospital corporations), entertainment, technology, financial institutions, energy and environmental, and professional services and accounting. Her experience includes both private parties and government entities, including the largest private antitrust suit ever brought in the US as well as the related international enforcement actions. She has been lead trial counsel in litigation involving SEC enforcement actions, securities fraud, commercial disputes, professional liability, healthcare class actions, oil spills, software implementation, and entertainment disputes.

“Linda is among the best when it comes to ‘bet the company’ litigation and complex business disputes that are in need of innovative solutions,” said Loren Brown, co-chair of DLA Piper’s US Litigation practice. “Linda’s background makes her an ideal fit for our collaborative approach to litigation, and she will strengthen our national trial practice both on the West Coast and across the country.”

“We are coming off of a great year and are looking to leverage that success in accelerating further into in the L.A. markets with notable star additions like Linda,” said Perrie Weiner, co-managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles offices. “In addition to adding strong trial lawyers, you will see us bulking up further this year in key service and sector areas.”

Smith has been named a “Top Woman Litigator” by both The National Law Journal and Los Angeles Daily Journal. She has served as a member of the board of directors for the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation and its Grants Committee, as a commissioner for the City of Los Angeles Commission on the Status of Women, and is currently a board member of Broads Circle and the American Friends of Hebrew University.

Smith joins DLA Piper from O’Melveny & Myers LLP. She received a J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles and a B.A. from Cornell University.
