Hogan Lovells announced today that Dean Hansell has joined its Los Angeles office as a partner in the Litigation, Arbitration and Employment practice, further building the practice on the West Coast.

“Dean Hansell’s long-standing reputation as a high-profile litigator based on his impressive record in both private practice and public service makes him an excellent addition to Hogan Lovells’ litigation practice and an asset to our clients up and down the West Coast and beyond,” said Stephen J. Immelt, Global Co-Head of Hogan Lovells’ Litigation, Arbitration and Employment practice. “His international litigation and arbitration experience also fits in perfectly within Hogan Lovells’ global capabilities and platform.”

“Dean is a widely recognized and highly respected litigator in Los Angeles, especially in the fields of class actions and complex, cutting-edge litigation, and we are very pleased to have him join the Hogan Lovells team,” said Stephen Kay, Managing Partner of Hogan Lovells’ Los Angeles office. “In addition to his impressive credentials as a litigator, Dean is actively involved with several civic organizations in the state and has served as a Los Angeles Police Commissioner.”

Hansell’s broad-based practice encompasses consumer, unfair competition, and labor and employment class actions; complex business litigation; government enforcement actions; environmental claims; insurance and reinsurance litigation and insolvency matters; international litigation and arbitration; and appeals.

As a former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prosecutor, Hansell handles litigation involving administrative proceedings and investigations, antitrust and price-fixing allegations, unfair business practice and comparison, and performance claim ads. He has litigated antitrust and marketing cases involving the motion picture production, motion picture distribution, healthcare, insurance and reinsurance, energy, and motor vehicle industries, among many others.

Hansell has significant experience with alternative dispute resolution and serves on the Arbitration Committee of the U.S. Council for International Business, and he frequently serves as national coordinating counsel, supervising litigation nationwide, or as U.S. counsel in international litigation.

“Los Angeles has been the home to my community work and legal practice for more than 30 years, and I look forward to building upon them as Hogan Lovells’ expands its litigation capabilities in both Southern and Northern California,” said Hansell.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Hansell was a partner with Dewey & LeBoeuf in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

The addition of Hansell is the latest component of Hogan Lovells’ expansion of its litigation practice on the West Coast. His arrival coincides with that of insurance litigator Vanessa Wells in the Silicon Valley office and follows the arrival of life sciences litigator Barry Thompson, who joined Hogan Lovells’ Los Angeles office as a partner in February.
