Leading Silicon Valley intellectual property trial lawyer Hopkins Guy joined Baker Botts L.L.P. today as a partner in the firm’s Palo Alto office. His practice focuses on patent, trade secret and commercial contract litigation involving all areas of web-based telecommunications, electronics and computer technologies.

Guy also provides intellectual property counsel to technology companies from start-up to mature companies, particularly in the clean-tech and solar technologies.

“Hopkins strengthens our IP litigation team in Palo Alto as we continue to build a major presence in the Silicon Valley,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner Andrew M. Baker. “Demand for counsel on web-based litigation matters is steadily increasing.”

Bart Showalter, Chair of Baker Botts’ Intellectual Property Department, said “Hopkins is widely respected throughout the IP community, and his wealth of experience in complex patent litigation matters perfectly complements our firmwide strategy of building a top-tier, global IP practice to best serve our clients.”

Guy is the third lateral partner to join Baker Botts in Palo Alto this year. In January, Kyle Guse and Amar Murugan, who represent a number of innovative companies in the life sciences and technology sectors, joined the firm’s corporate practice.

And the firm’s growth in the Silicon Valley will continue, notes B.C. Boren, Partner in Charge of the Palo Alto office.

“Hopkins is an important addition to our legal team here, and we are pleased that he decided to join the firm,” Boren said. “We will continue to look for talented lawyers who can help us address client needs not only here in Palo Alto but across the network of all our offices. It is important that as a global law firm we respond to client calls for counsel on complex legal matters across a broad platform of industries.”

In addition to filing what is reportedly the first infringement case brought in a U.S. court against a China-based technology company to obtain a worldwide trade secret preliminary injunction, Guy has repeatedly been named one of California’s leading IP litigators by The Daily Journal.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Guy was an IP litigation partner in the Silicon Valley office of Orrick. He is a member of the California Bar, the American Bar Association and the International Trade Commission Bar Association. He earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law.
