The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP (www.bryancave.com) announced the addition of Lou Weller as of counsel in the firm’s San Francisco office. Weller will take a lead role within the firm’s real estate capital markets tax practice as well as provide enhanced tax capabilities within California and nationally. Previously he served as National Director of Real Estate Transaction Planning and National Director, Like Kind Exchange Services at Deloitte Tax LLP.

Weller has practiced tax and business law for more than 30 years and is a nationally recognized authority in real estate tax matters. He has extensive experience designing and implementing strategies for real estate and business asset acquisitions, transfers, exchanges, leases, financing, workouts, business start-ups, limited liability companies, partnership and joint venture formations, transactions involving REITs, capital raising through placement of partnership interests and stock, as well as counseling clients on achieving business and personal tax planning objectives. Weller has written and lectured widely on a variety of real estate and tax topics and is currently the Real Estate Dept. editor of the Journal of Taxation.

Weller received a B.A., cum laude, in political science from Yale University and concurrent J.D. and Master’s in Public Policy degrees from the University of California-Berkeley.
