Allen Matkins, a California-based full service business and real estate law firm, announced today the addition of securities and corporate governance litigation partner Richard S. Horvath, Jr. to its San Francisco office. Rick brings to the firm’s Litigation Department and Corporate Governance & Compliance Group a diverse practice focused on representing directors and public companies in complex litigation involving alleged corporate misconduct or violations of federal securities laws.

In addition to Rick, formerly with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, Allen Matkins has hired 11 attorneys in 2017, including Marc Young, former chair of Morrison & Foerster’s global Real Estate Group, O’Malley Miller, former head of Munger Tolles & Olson’s real estate practice, and tax partner Scott Dommes who was previously in-house tax counsel at Chevron Corporation. Most recently, the firm’s San Francisco office also welcomed corporate attorney Max Brunner from Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and litigation attorney Grayson (Trey) Marshall from Schiff Hardin LLP.

Rick regularly advises clients on the fiduciary duties of directors and officers, shareholder activism, responding to shareholder demands and the investments of significant shareholders in public and private companies. High-profile clients have included The Walt Disney Company and Chevron Corporation, and the directors of PG&E Corporation and Hewlett-Packard. He was a key member of the team recognized by the Daily Journal with a 2016 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year award for innovative work on behalf of Broadcom Corporation in its acquisition by Avago Technologies.

Rick received both his Bachelor of the Arts and Master of Science degrees from Lehigh University and his juris doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
