Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its Los Angeles office with the addition of Becca J. Wahlquist as a partner in the firm’s commercial litigation group. Wahlquist, a 2008 California lawyer of the Year, is nationally known for defending businesses sued under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”), a statute engendering significant litigation in state and federal courts. Wahlquist comes to Snell & Wilmer from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, where she helped to found that firm’s TCPA practice group.

“Many of us at Snell & Wilmer have known and admired Becca and her work for years—we are thrilled she has joined us,” said Cary Jones, administrative partner of Snell & Wilmer’s Los Angeles office. “Becca’s first-chair class action experience and complex litigation practice tie in nicely to areas where we also have firm-wide strength. She will be a valuable leader as we continue to expand in Los Angeles.”

Wahlquist has a wide-ranging, complex commercial litigation practice, including TCPA litigations, contract and business tort disputes, Section 17200 and traditional class action cases, regulatory investigations and commercial arbitrations. She also consults frequently with major corporations about compliance with federal and state telemarketing laws and other calling regulations. Further, Wahlquist
devotes significant time to pro bono civil rights matters.

Wahlquist earned her B.A., cum laude, and an M.A. in Literature from Brigham Young University. She received a second M.A. in Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles and earned her J.D., cum laude from the New York University School of Law. She joined Kirkland & Ellis LLP out of law school, and joined the partnership there before leaving in 2010 for Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP.

Wahlquist is the fifth recent addition to the Los Angeles office after partners Jonathan Jaech, Grant Langton and James Thompson and counsel Glenn Trost joined the office in July and August.
