Sedgwick LLP is pleased to announce that Mitchell Kim has joined the firm as an Associate in its Los Angeles office. Kim’s practice covers multiple facets of commercial law, including labor and employment, copyright and trademark, product liability, clothing retail, complex commercial, premises liability, personal injury and general liability defense.
“We are extremely excited to have Mitch join our team,” Sedgwick Chair Mike Healy said. “In addition to his legal acumen, we were attracted to Mitch’s deep involvement in the Korean-American business community, which has organically become a strategic focus of the firm.”
Kim is a commercial litigator who regularly tries cases, both bench and jury, for companies ranging in size from small businesses to Fortune 500 concerns. He maintains a significant caseload and handles everything from pre-litigation to trial or settlement, court appearances, discovery, mediations and settlement negotiations. He also serves as a general outside counsel for multiple private corporations that range in size and capacity.
Active in the Korean-American community, Kim is a member of the Orange County Korean American Bar Association and Korean American Bar Association of Southern California. As a fluent Korean speaker, he also offers pro bono counseling to the Korean American Apparel Manufacturers Association, a nonprofit organization that provides Korean garment business owners with access to legal counsel and other business resources.
Kim’s hire follows the news in May that Attorney Michael Yim had joined Sedgwick as a member of its New York office. Like Kim, Yim is also active in the Korean-American business community. Yim is the Regional Governor for the International Association of Korean Lawyers of New York, serves on the board of directors for the Korean American Family Service Center, and is a member of Korean American Lawyers of Greater New York.
Kim earned his J.D. (2010) from Southwestern University School of Law and his B.A. (2006) from the University of California, Los Angeles. Recognized as a “Top Attorney” by Pasadena Magazine in 2014 and 2015, Kim is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
