McGuireWoods LLP today announced that Franklin D. Kang has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation group as a partner in Los Angeles.

He brings to the firm extensive experience representing Korea-based and other Asia-based clients, including electronics and life science companies, in patent litigation before U.S. federal courts and the International Trade Commission, as well as other intellectual property disputes and complex international arbitration matters.

“Frank’s experience representing U.S. and international companies in cross-border patent disputes will be a valuable asset to our clients as they work to protect their patent portfolios or market their products on a global scale,” said Brian Riopelle, chair of McGuireWoods’ Intellectual Property Litigation/Patents Department.

“We are excited to welcome Frank to the team,” said Richard Grant, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. “The experience he brings to the firm will enhance our team of lawyers serving clients who are based or operate in Asia.”

“I am very pleased to join McGuireWoods. I was particularly drawn to the firm’s culture and emphasis on collegiality and excellence,” said Kang. “The firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice has an outstanding reputation, and I look forward to working with the team to serve Asia and U.S.-based clients in significant cross-border IP matters and to continue to grow my Korea practice.”

Kang joins the firm from DLA Piper LLP’s Los Angeles office, where he was a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group and Korea Practice. He has served as a board member of the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association (LAIPLA) and as a co-chair of numerous subcommittees of the Patent Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL). He has been honored as a “Super Lawyer” for Intellectual Property Litigation and as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is a member of the Michel Intellectual Property American Inns of Court, International Association of Korean Lawyers, Korean American Bar Association, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
