WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Heather Tewksbury will be joining the firm’s Palo Alto office as a partner in the Antitrust and Competition Practice on January 21, 2014. She recently served as a trial attorney with the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Antitrust Division in San Francisco where she worked on the investigation and prosecution of criminal antitrust violations.

While serving at the DOJ, Tewksbury was a principal trial lawyer in four of the most significant criminal prosecutions brought by the agency in the last two years. She served as one of the lead trial lawyers in United States v. AU Optronics Corporation, a case with seven defendants (two corporations and five executives) involving price-fixing in the LCD industry. After that trial, Tewksbury led the sentencing of the corporations, which resulted in a record $500 million fine and the first ever appointment of a corporate compliance monitor in a contested sentencing. She also served as lead trial counsel in the jury trials of two AU Optronics executives. Tewksbury was also involved in United States v. Frank Peake, a criminal antitrust matter in the Coastal Water Freight industry, resulting in a conviction and the longest sentence ever imposed on an individual for a Sherman Act violation.

Tewksbury is a recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the Antitrust Division Award of Distinction for her work on the LCD investigation. Last year, she received the California Lawyer Attorney of the Year award. In addition, she was named an Attorney of the Year by The Recorder and Top 20 California Lawyers Under 40 by the Daily Journal.

“Heather’s criminal trial experience enhances our ability to provide the best counsel and representation to clients facing criminal antitrust investigations and prosecution,” said Thomas Mueller, co-chair of WilmerHale’s Antitrust and Competition Practice. “Her background will further develop our leading antitrust practice and strengthen the group’s civil and criminal defense representation on the West Coast. We are delighted that she is joining the group.”

“WilmerHale is widely known as having a formidable antitrust practice, and a top-notch antitrust cartel group. It’s the ideal place for me to contribute to an already robust criminal defense antitrust practice by further developing it on the West Coast,” said Tewksbury.

Tewksbury’s practice at WilmerHale will primarily focus on the representation of clients in criminal antitrust investigations and litigation, and more broadly, in the area of government investigations. She will be a member of WilmerHale’s Regulatory and Government Affairs and Litigation/Controversy Departments.
