The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced that Carolyn F. McNiven has joined as a shareholder in the Litigation practice in San Francisco. She focuses her practice on white collar defense matters, representing multi-million dollar public companies, private companies, as well as individuals.
McNiven has over 20 years experience in white collar criminal and government enforcement matters. She specializes in counseling and defending companies (including pharmaceutical, medical device, and hospital systems) accused of health care fraud, Anti-Kickback violations, and FDA marketing and promotion offenses. In the criminal context she handles FCPA, cybercrime, and other business crimes. She also has deep experience on civil enforcement exposure (including False Claims Act, qui tam, Dodd Frank, health care exclusions) along with conducting cost sensitive compliance assessments.
Prior to private practice, McNiven spent over 13 years as a federal prosecutor in Chicago, where she handled public corruption and financial fraud cases. She was selected by the U.S. Attorney to be a deputy chief leading that office’s criminal health care enforcement efforts for six years.
“Carolyn’s background and breadth of experience, particularly in the intricacies of health care enforcement and financial crimes, will be an asset to our office and our clients,” said Michelle Ferreira, co-managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s San Francisco office. “We are excited to welcome Carolyn to our team and look forward to working with her.”
“Carolyn is a great addition to our growing California Litigation Practice,” said Matt Gorson, Greenberg Traurig President. ” Her handling of high-stakes litigation and experience as a federal prosecutor speak to our commitment to continue to expand with top level talent and build on the depth of services we offer our clients.”
McNiven received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law and her B.A. from Amherst College. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig she was a partner at DLA Piper.
McNiven is the most recent hire in the trend of strategic expansion throughout Greenberg Traurig’s California offices, including William Sloan Coats from Kaye Scholer, who joined this week in the firm’s Silicon Valley office as a shareholder in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. Others recent additions include, Silicon Valley Corporate shareholder Daniel Green; Los Angeles Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation shareholder Ginger Pigott and Business Reorganization & Financial Restructuring shareholder Howard Steinberg; and Orange County Corporate shareholder Michael McKinnon and Intellectual Property Litigation shareholder Rick Taché.
