The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced that Carolyn F. McNiven has joined as a shareholder in the Litigation practice in San Francisco. She focuses her practice on white collar defense matters, representing multi-million dollar public companies, private companies, as well as individuals.

McNiven has over 20 years experience in white collar criminal and government enforcement matters. She specializes in counseling and defending companies (including pharmaceutical, medical device, and hospital systems) accused of health care fraud, Anti-Kickback violations, and FDA marketing and promotion offenses. In the criminal context she handles FCPA, cybercrime, and other business crimes. She also has deep experience on civil enforcement exposure (including False Claims Act, qui tam, Dodd Frank, health care exclusions) along with conducting cost sensitive compliance assessments.

Prior to private practice, McNiven spent over 13 years as a federal prosecutor in Chicago, where she handled public corruption and financial fraud cases. She was selected by the U.S. Attorney to be a deputy chief leading that office’s criminal health care enforcement efforts for six years.

McNiven received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law and her B.A. from Amherst College. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig she was a partner at DLA Piper.

McNiven is the most recent hire in the trend of strategic expansion throughout Greenberg Traurig’s California offices, including William Sloan Coats from Kaye Scholer, who joined this week in the firm’s Silicon Valley office as a shareholder in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice.
