Dykema announces that J. Alexandra Rhim has joined the Firm as a senior counsel in its Bankruptcy Practice Group. She will be based in the Firm’s Los Angeles office. Rhim will provide legal representation and strategic counsel to financial institutions and other creditors to assist them to maximize recoveries in distressed debt situations.

Rhim concentrates her practice on all aspects of bankruptcy matters, loan workouts, and creditors’ rights. Rhim has specialized in representing secured lenders and, during her career, has represented a wide array of financial institutions, including banks, asset-based lenders, factors, credit unions and the FDIC in its capacity as receiver over failed institutions. During her many years of experience in troubled debt situations, Rhim has also developed experience in problem loan workouts, strategic transactions involving debt or asset acquisition, negotiating and documenting loan transactions, minimizing insolvency risks in business transactions, and enforcement of remedies.

Rhim joins Dykema from Buchalter Nemer, where she was a bankruptcy practitioner in that firm’s Insolvency and Financial Solutions practice since 1997.

“Alex brings a wealth of experience in working through and resolving highly complex insolvency matters. Her accomplishments both as a strategic advisor and litigator bring depth to this important practice,” said Brendan Cahill, member and leader of Dykema’s Corporate Finance and Bankruptcy Practice Groups.

Mike Wippler, Office Managing Member of Dykema’s Los Angeles office, adds, “Alex’s arrival underscores our Firm’s commitment to provide clients—particularly those in the financial services sector—with experienced leadership and insightful counsel in highly sophisticated bankruptcy and workout scenarios.”

Previously, Rhim served as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Geraldine Mund, United States Bankruptcy Judge, Central District of California.

Rhim received a J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where she was an editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles International & Comparative Law Journal, and a B.A. in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
