Robert Claassen has joined Kaye Scholer as a Partner in its Corporate Department in Palo Alto. He arrives from Paul Hastings, where he served as chair of that firm’s Silicon Valley Corporate Practice.

“Rob’s arrival at Kaye Scholer is just the latest success in our strategy to grow those practices and industry groups for which are continuously recognized, including our Silicon Valley technology team,” said Firm Managing Partner Michael Solow. “His extensive experience advising clients in the technology and emerging growth space makes him an ideal fit for our thriving Palo Alto office.”

Claassen’s practice focuses on emerging growth and other companies in Silicon Valley and elsewhere, advising them on many of their most important matters, including company formations, venture capital and private equity financings, initial public offerings, convertible debt offerings, M&A and strategic transactions. In addition, Claassen advises large public companies on general corporate matters, such as compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, SEC filings, executive compensation and corporate governance.

“Rob’s emerging growth experience and background working with VC firms complement and support the work we are doing in the private equity, hedge funds and investment management space,” said Mel Cherney, Co-Chair of Kaye Scholer’s Corporate Department. “He will also add additional breadth to our public and private M&A, capital markets and corporate governance practice on both the national and regional level. We are delighted to have him join us in Palo Alto as we continue investing in that office on both the IP and Corporate side to serve Silicon Valley’s roster of technology and biotech clients.”

“I am lucky to get to work with many of the most exciting growth companies in the world on some of their most important matters, and Kaye Scholer’s Palo Alto office couldn’t be a stronger platform, with its deep M&A and technology focus,” said Claassen.

Admitted to practice in California and New York, Claassen earned his JD at University of Wisconsin Law School. He also holds a BS from University of Wisconsin, Madison.
