Latham & Watkins LLP is pleased to announce that Dan Burnham has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the Corporate Department. He has extensive experience representing emerging companies and venture capital investors in Los Angeles and across the country in financings, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters. He joins from Strategic Law Partners in Los Angeles.

Burnham will head the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice Group in Los Angeles, enhancing Latham’s local and national role as a leading advisor to private and public companies in the technology, life sciences and cleantech industries, as well as the venture capital firms and investment banks that finance the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Latham has a significant presence in the four largest venture capital markets in the United States – Silicon Valley, Boston/New England, Southern California and New York.

“Dan Burnham is one of the few lawyers in Los Angeles whose practice focuses exclusively on emerging companies and venture capital and who has an excellent reputation throughout the market. His joining Latham & Watkins demonstrates the firm’s strong commitment to the burgeoning emerging companies market in Los Angeles,” said Jim Beaubien, Office Managing Partner in Los Angeles. “The three mile stretch from Venice to Santa Monica, now known as ‘Silicon Beach,’ is host to numerous emerging companies and is garnering national attention. The convergence of the media and entertainment industry with the Internet and technology sector has produced dozens of new digital media companies based in Los Angeles, and entrepreneurs also have successfully launched companies across sectors such as Internet retail, adtech, life sciences, software and cleantech.”

Alex Voxman, a partner who co-chairs the firm’s Corporate Department in Los Angeles noted: “Bringing on Dan Burnham is part of our strategy to be a dominant emerging companies law firm in the Los Angeles market. Many local emerging companies require the sophisticated advice and global resources that are noted strengths of our firm. We have the experience, market insights and connections, both locally and nationally, to assist entrepreneurs from formation through financing rounds to an initial public offering or sale transaction.”

Insights from a national perspective were added by Patrick Pohlen, a partner in the Silicon Valley office who co-chairs the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice Group: “When Latham successfully opened an office in Boston in 2011, we noted that private companies were increasingly engaging large law firms that possess diverse capabilities to match their business requirements. We provide this to startups on a cost effective basis through the life cycle of our clients. Latham now has a reputation of being a top emerging companies firm on a local, regional, national and global scale, with capabilities few other firms can match.”

Burnham commented: “Latham is one of the few top firms that really ‘gets it’ when it comes to an emerging companies and venture capital practice, both in terms of culture and expertise. I’m very excited to bring my practice to Latham, to continue to serve my clients while adding the breadth and sophistication of Latham’s emerging companies practice, and to build on Latham’s already strong presence in the local and national startup, tech and venture capital ecosystem.”
