Womble Carlyle announced today that Behrooz Shariati has joined the firm’s Silicon Valley office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Group. Shariati’s patent and copyright litigation practice focuses on software, computer hardware, networking technologies and industry standards.

Shariati, who was formerly a partner in the Silicon Valley office of Jones Day, represents clients in complex and highly technical patent and copyright cases. Recent representations include Xilinx, Extreme Networks, Honda America, and Nordic Naturals.

“Behrooz has a great track record as a patent litigator in Silicon Valley and we’re very excited to have him join the firm,” said Michael Gencarella, Managing Partner of Womble Carlyle’s Silicon Valley office. “Our focus in this office, since opening in October of last year, is to provide a full range of intellectual property law services to our Silicon Valley clients and Behrooz will strengthen our litigation presence,” added James Vaughan, co-leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, which includes nearly 80 attorneys and patent agents firmwide.

In addition to his legal expertise, Shariati has more than 15 years of technology industry experience in both technical and management capacities. He received a J.D., magna cum laude, from Western State University in 1994 and a B.S. in computer Science from North Carolina State University in 1983. He has been registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1995.
