The national law firm LeClairRyan has announced the addition of three shareholders who will greatly expand upon the firm’s already substantial capabilities in intellectual property and litigation matters. This move bolsters LeClairRyan’s capabilities in San Francisco, while creating opportunities for clients of the firm nationally.

Joining the firm as shareholders are Rick C. Chang, Duane H. Mathiowetz and Patricia L. Peden. All were previously partners with Novak Druce Connolly Bove + Quigg LLP.

LeClairRyan now has 35 employees in San Francisco, which includes 18 lawyers. LeClairRyan’s California presence also includes 42 attorneys and staff in its Los Angeles and Sacramento offices.

The attorneys joining LeClairRyan bring significant experience in sophisticated intellectual property matters including patent litigation, inter partes review, copyright, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition. They routinely provide counsel to clients in a broad range of industries such as software, manufacturing, biotechnology, mobile communication, electronics, energy and pharmaceuticals.

“We are excited to join a growing law firm that has offices across the country,” says Mathiowetz. “This move provides our clients with access to a wide array of legal talent in a full range of transactional and litigation matters. We look forward to working with our new colleagues in seeking professional growth opportunities for the firm and the advancement of our clients’ business objectives.”

“Our focus on adding exceptional talent to enhance our firm’s growing capabilities is driven by a single goal: to meet the ever-evolving needs of our clients,” says LeClairRyan CEO David C. Freinberg. “With the addition of this team of highly experienced attorneys, we are able to provide our clients with deeper intellectual property and litigation capabilities in California. We are very pleased to have Duane, Patricia and Rick join us, ensuring that LeClairRyan continues to provide the type of representation that will enhance our clients’ businesses.”
