Duane H. Mathiowetz has joined the Schiff Hardin LLP San Francisco office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Group from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP in San Francisco.

Mr. Mathiowetz’s practice is primarily devoted to patent, trademark and trade secret litigation, unfair competition matters, and IP-related counseling. A registered patent attorney, he counsels and represents clients concerning their intellectual property rights and in disputes that involve technologies spanning diverse industries, including advanced semiconductor manufacturing, silicon crystal growth, LCD panel backlighting, medical and MEMS devices, automotive components, industrial equipment, alternative fuels, television electronic programming guides and e-commerce software. In addition to his extensive trial practice of technology matters before the district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission, Mr. Mathiowetz has handled and argued multiple appeals before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and he has represented clients before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (now the Patent Trial and Appeal Board) of the U.S. Patent Office.

He graduated from University of San Francisco School of Law (J.D., with honors, 1983), Stanford University (M.S., Mechanical Engineering, 1975), and University of Minnesota (B.S., Mechanical Engineering, with distinction, 1974).
