Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that Thad Davis and Michael Li-Ming Wong have joined the firm’s San Francisco office as partners. Both were previously with Ropes & Gray. Davis joins Gibson Dunn as Co-Chair of the Securities Litigation Practice Group, and Wong will serve as Co-Chair of the firm’s Securities Enforcement Group and also be a member of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Group.

Davis focuses on complex business litigation, including trial practice across the spectrum of securities, regulatory, M&A, antitrust, data privacy and trade secret matters. Wong, a former Chief of the White Collar Crimes Section for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California, focuses on securities enforcement, white-collar defense matters and courtroom litigation.

Davis is a trial lawyer who has tried more than two dozen cases, including two trials in 2012 to date. He has substantial experience in a broad range of complex business disputes, including those involving securities, white collar, class action, corporate governance and control, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, unfair competition, trade secret, employment, data privacy, and regulatory issues.

Davis graduated magna cum laude in 1994 from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of Harvard Law Review.

About Michael Li-Ming Wong

Wong’s litigation practice focuses on white-collar defense matters, complex civil litigation and internal corporate investigations. He has tried close to 20 civil and criminal jury trials as first-chair trial counsel. He has significant regulatory and FCPA experience and has advised companies throughout the world on FCPA investigations and on compliance and training programs. He has also successfully represented companies in Department of Justice investigations involving trade secrets and insider-trading, as well as qui tam and whistleblower cases.

Before joining Ropes & Gray in 2008, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California from 2004 to 2008. During his tenure, he served as Chief of the Major Crimes Section, the largest and busiest unit in the office, where he trained and supervised all new Assistant U.S. Attorneys. He later served as Chief of the White Collar Crimes Section, overseeing investigations, prosecutions and trials relating to corporate fraud, healthcare fraud, mortgage fraud, bank fraud, environmental crimes, civil rights offenses and public corruption. He twice received the Justice Department Director’s Award for Superior Performance.

Wong has taught trial advocacy at Stanford Law School, University of California – Hastings College of Law, and the DOJ’s National Advocacy Center.

He clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Judge Jose Cabranes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1994 and was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
