Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, today announced that Harry W.R. Chamberlain II has joined the firm’s Sacramento office as a partner in the Litigation Division. Chamberlain comes to Manatt from Buchalter Nemer in Los Angeles.

Chamberlain is experienced in appellate and insurance work, focusing his practice on appellate and regulatory law, complex litigation and employment law representing professionals, businesses and public entities, with special concentration on post-trial remedies and appeals. He has handled complex litigation, including class actions, multi-district professional and products liability, financial services and insurance liability disputes, and arbitration of complex insurance and reinsurance disputes.

“Harry is a phenomenal appellate lawyer, who brings to Manatt an excellent reputation and a profound skill set that complement the firm’s strong litigation platform,” said Chad Hummel, chair of Manatt’s Litigation Division. “His wide-ranging experience successfully litigating complex business disputes from trial through the appellate process will be a significant asset to our clients. We are thrilled to have Harry on our team.”

Prior to Buchalter Nemer, Chamberlain served as general counsel to a California professional liability insurer and has managed the law department of a national group of U.S. property and casualty insurers. He is certified as an Appellate Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization, and he has argued hundreds of appeals, representing clients before the Supreme Court of California and the highest courts of several jurisdictions.

Manatt Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner William T. Quicksilver said that Chamberlain’s addition “presents an opportunity to further enhance our nationally recognized litigation practice, deepening our considerable appellate capabilities. We are pleased to welcome him to the firm.”

Chamberlain is past president of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and he served as the 2010-2011 president of the California Defense Counsel, the nation’s largest regional bar associations of civil defense trial attorneys. Chamberlain lectures and writes extensively on a variety of topics concerning business litigation, First Amendment rights and alternative dispute resolution.

“Manatt is well known for superior litigation capabilities,” said Chamberlain. “That, coupled with sophisticated industry expertise, makes the firm a perfect fit for my practice.”

Chamberlain earned a B.A. from San Diego State University and a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, where he was an editor of Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly and justice (president) of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
