Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Sean T. Prosser has joined the firm’s San Diego office as a partner in the White Collar & Investigations practice. Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Sean was a partner with Morrison & Foerster in San Diego. Sean is the fifth partner to join Perkins Coie’s San Diego office this year, following the additions of Tom Millikan, Joe Reid and Laura Zagar in February and Julie Hussey in April.

“Sean is an outstanding securities litigator and one of the best SEC attorneys on the West Coast,” said Matthew Bernstein, Office Managing Partner of Perkins Coie’s San Diego office. “His background in both the private sector and government sides of securities enforcement is an invaluable resource for our clients and builds upon our existing nationally recognized white collar practice. As the firm continues to expand, especially in California, Sean’s addition further strengthens our national reputation.”

A former enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Sean has extensive experience in SEC actions, shareholder class actions, and derivative and corporate control lawsuits. As a litigator advising and defending clients facing regulatory enforcement investigations and proceedings, Sean’s private practice now includes representation of companies, chief executives, directors and officers, broker dealers, hedge funds, committees, accounting firms and public officials.

Sean has also defended numerous public companies and their executives in federal securities class action and state derivative lawsuits. He has represented clients in a broad range of industries, including life sciences, financial services, computer software and hardware, medical devices, and consumer products. Sean has a significant securities litigation practice, within and outside of the regulatory context, with a particular depth in California-based actions. In his practice, Sean also manages internal investigations and inquiries and enforcement proceedings initiated by many regulatory authorities.

“Sean’s addition is a key component of building out our national white collar practice,” said Pravin Rao, Chair of Perkins Coie’s White Collar & Investigations practice. “His successful track record at the SEC and his broad experience representing companies and their officers and directors facing complex securities issues will benefit our clients both in California and nationally. We are delighted to welcome Sean to Perkins Coie.”

Sean earned his J.D from New York Law School and received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He sits on the Board of Editors of The Corporate Counselor and has written extensively and spoken widely about SEC investigations in the post-financial crisis era, insider trading and the fiduciary duties of officers and directors. Sean is recognized by Best Lawyers in America (2010 – 2014), Legal 500 (2012 – 2014) and San Diego Super Lawyers (2010 – 2014).
