National law firm Polsinelli Shughart welcomes attorney Lawrence C. Conn to the firm’s Los Angeles office to practice health care law. Conn represents hospital systems and other health care providers on a wide range of regulatory and transactional matters in the evolving landscape of health law. Conn’s addition ushers in a new practice area for the California office.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding our capabilities since joining Polsinelli Shughart last year,” said Los Angeles Managing Partner Lisa Quateman. “Larry’s deep understanding of the complex issues hospitals and health care systems face will be of great value to our firm and clients.”

Polsinelli Shughart expanded its national footprint to nine states and 16 cities through the acquisition of Quateman LLP in Los Angeles on July 1, 2011. The Los Angeles office has attorneys who provide counsel in a variety of areas including banking and financial institutions, corporate law, energy and utilities, mergers and acquisitions, municipal law, and real estate development, finance and transactions. The National Law Journal has ranked Polsinelli Shughart as one of the fastest growing law firms in the country.

Conn joins one of the largest health care practices in the nation, which includes more than 85 attorneys in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Washington D.C. Modern Healthcare magazine ranked Polsinelli Shughart’s health care practice as the sixth largest in the nation.
“Larry is a great addition to our robust national health care team,” said Matt Murer, chair of the Polsinelli Shughart practice group. “Los Angeles is an important health care market and a key part of our firm’s overall strategic growth plan. We are excited to have Larry aboard.”

Conn has represented hospitals, physicians, clinical laboratories, pharmacies and therapy and DME suppliers in a wide range of legal areas and issues. He has particular experience in health care compliance issues, including the Stark and anti-kickback statutes, as well as Medicare billing and reimbursement matters. In addition to his compliance practice, Conn has experience in health care transactional matters, including structuring a wide variety of hospital-physician arrangements such as joint ventures and physician practice acquisitions.

“Polsinelli Shughart offers a platform that is attractive to my clients and further allows me to develop my own health care practice while working with some of the most knowledgeable attorneys in the business,” Conn said.

Conn earned his J.D. from Stanford University in 1984. He earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from Princeton University in 1981 and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society.
