Schiff Hardin welcomes Paula Leibovitz Goodwin as a partner in the Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group in the firm’s San Francisco office. Ms. Goodwin has more than 30 years of experience in estate planning and decedent estate administration, with an emphasis on tax planning for both large and small estates.

Prior to joining Schiff Hardin, Ms. Goodwin practiced with Leibovitz Goodwin Law Group, the Orinda, Calif., trusts and estates firm she founded. Additionally, Ms. Goodwin previously was a Senior Adjunct Professor at Golden Gate University’s School of Taxation.

Attorney Caitlin E. Carey also joined Schiff Hardin’s San Francisco office from Leibovitz Goodwin Law Group.

“We are delighted that Paula and Caitlin have joined our group in San Francisco,” said Thomas W. Abendroth, leader of Schiff Hardin’s Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group. “They build upon the capabilities of the firm’s Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group and reinforce our commitment to serving clients in the Bay Area.”

Ms. Goodwin added, “Having my own firm has been a very satisfying experience, but I am excited about this move. Schiff Hardin’s Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group will provide me with a new depth and breadth of support that will allow me to better serve my clients.”

Among the largest and most recognized practices at the firm, Schiff Hardin’s Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group includes about 30 lawyers nationwide with seven in the San Francisco office, including Ms. Goodwin and Ms. Carey. Six of the Group’s attorneys are Fellows of the prestigious peer-elected American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).

While many general practice law firms are shedding their trusts and estates practices, Schiff Hardin is committed to expanding its practice as it plays an important role in the firm’s overall growth. In July 2013, Schiff Hardin added seven attorneys to the Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group in New York through a combination with the law firm Mazur Carp.

Ms. Goodwin graduated from University of California – Hastings College of Law and received her Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from Golden Gate University School of Law. Ms. Carey graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law.
