Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today the arrival of partners Doug Mancino and Ofer Lion to the firm’s Corporate department in Los Angeles. They join from Hunton & Williams LLP, where Mancino served as co-head of the firm’s health care practice.
With more than 40 years of experience, Mancino is recognized as one of the country’s top health care and tax-exempt organization lawyers. He has represented all types of health care and nonprofit organizations on tax, business and financial matters. He has extensive experience in audit, appeals and tax controversy issues. Notably, Mancino has also served as counsel to health care clients in a number of cases that have defined the limits of tax-exempt organizations participating in health care joint ventures. He is resident in Seyfarth’s Los Angeles – Century City office.
Lion’s practice focuses on tax-exempt organizations and nonprofits of all shapes and sizes, including hospitals and health care organizations, universities and schools, research institutions, public charities, private foundations and private operating foundations. He has represented nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations in a wide range of tax, transactional, corporate, governance and fiduciary matters, including formation, mergers and acquisitions, executive compensation, international activities and affiliations, unrelated business taxable income, joint ventures, program-related investments, political activities and lobbying, conservation easements, tax return review, tax-exempt bonds and dissolutions. He is resident in Seyfarth’s Los Angeles – Downtown office.
“Doug and Ofer are among the nation’s leading authorities on health care and tax-exempt organization matters, areas where we see opportunities for growth that also complement our national platform,” said Paul Mattingly, chair of Seyfarth’s Corporate department. “It’s also exciting to provide our clients a team of trusted advisors who have shaped – and continue to shape – the law in their respective practices.”
“This is a very important space for our clients here in California,” said Laura Shelby, managing partner of Seyfarth’s Los Angeles – Century City office. “West Coast clients often have operations across the country and need sophisticated counsel who truly understand the nuances of the health care and tax-exempt organization universe.”
“Having literally written the book on many of these issues, Doug and his team are a great asset to our offices in Los Angeles, as well as our clients nationally,” said Richard Mendelson, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Los Angeles – Downtown office.
Mancino has authored more than 85 articles and book chapters concerning tax-exempt organizations and health care issues.
