Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Vera M. Elson is joining the firm’s Palo Alto office as a partner in the intellectual property litigation practice. Ms. Elson focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation and counseling clients in the technology arena, including a number of Silicon Valley’s leading technology companies. She has tried numerous intellectual property cases to verdict in district courts across the country, and has extensive experience representing high technology clients before the International Trade Commission.

“Vera is an outstanding IP litigator who also has a technical background in a core area of our IP practice,” said Tom DeFilipps, Managing Partner of Sidley’s Palo Alto office. “I have known Vera for many years, and her experience, commitment and integrity will complement our strong IP litigation platform.”

Ms. Elson began her career as a high-speed digital circuit designer with Hughes Aircraft’s Advanced Circuit Technology Lab. She received her B.S. in Cybernetics and her M.S.E.E. degrees with an emphasis in circuit design from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her J.D. degree from the University of Southern California. She interned for the late Chief Judge Helen W. Nies at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of California. Ms. Elson is a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyers Association. She is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Chambers USA has consistently recognized Ms. Elson as a leading lawyer in Intellectual Property in California from 2005 to 2011. The Daily Journal has twice recognized her as one of the Top 50 Intellectual Property Litigators and the Top Women Litigators in California. Ms. Elson was also named among the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal’s 2008 Women of Influence in Silicon Valley.
