Venable LLP announced today that Jean Y. Yu has joined the Los Angeles office as of counsel in the Tax and Wealth Planning group. Ms. Yu, an experienced employee benefits attorney, counsels large public corporations, small and mid-market companies, multiemployer (Taft-Hartley) plans, single employer plans, non-profit organizations, and corporate trustees on all aspects of employee benefits and deferred compensation. Prior to Venable, Jean spent most of her career at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP.

Ms. Yu’s practice includes designing and implementing traditional retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and various deferred compensation plans and arrangements; representing clients in negotiations with the IRS and Department of Labor (DOL) on complex compliance issues; counseling employers on multiemployer trust and collective bargaining issues; advising on ERISA fiduciary and prohibited transaction issues; and counseling on employee benefits issues in corporate mergers and acquisitions.

Before entering the legal industry, Ms. Yu spent several years as a senior consultant in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group at Ernst & Young LLP. She graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with a Master of Laws in Taxation. Prior to that, she earned a Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from University of California at Berkeley.
