Cooley LLP announced today that it represented Epocrates, Inc. in its $293 million sale to athenahealth, Inc., a provider of electronic health records systems. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2013.

The Epocrates team was led by partner Matthew Hemington and associate Tali Sealman with consultation from mergers & acquisitions partner Jennifer Fonner DiNucci. Additional team members included partners Mark Windfeld-HansenRenee Deming and Robin Lee; associates Dan EspinozaSeth GottliebJustin Lau and Ian Shannon; and paralegal specialist Kris Tamashiro.

Based in San Mateo, California, Epocrates is the leading creator of mobile medical applications for more than 330,000 US physicians who use the company’s app to call up summaries on drugs, including side effects and interactions. Cooley represented Epocrates from its inception and through the Company’s initial public offering in 2011.
