DLA Piper announced today that Ute Krudewagen has joined the firm’s Labor & Employment practice as a partner in the Silicon Valley office.

Krudewagen advises international and cross-border clients on a broad range of complex labor and employment matters, including background checks, employment agreements, discrimination and harassment claims, social media issues, global policies and procedures, non-compete and proprietary information agreements, works council and union issues, codes of social responsibility, workplace privacy, global reductions in force, and severance and retention plans. She also counsels global companies on employment issues associated with cross-border and national transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing transactions, post-acquisition integrations and tax restructurings.

“The addition of Ute will strengthen our ability to represent multinational clients that are impacted by an increasingly global and mobile workforce,” said Michael Sheehan, global co-chair and US chair of DLA Piper’s Employment practice. “She will be instrumental in supporting the US side of cross-border employment work while collaborating with our colleagues and clients abroad.”

“Ute has a strong background managing multijurisdictional projects and cross-border initiatives, which are becoming more common among the clients we serve in Northern California especially in Silicon Valley,” said Sang Kim, co-managing partner of the Silicon Valley office. “Her skill set lends itself well to the international expansion and reorganization work the firm is doing across many segments of the tech industry.”

A frequent author, Krudewagen has been published in Workspan, The Daily Journal, Association of Corporate Counsel Newsstand, The Recorder, California Employment Law Magazine and Worldwide Financier, among others. She has also presented on international labor and employment topics at leading industry events, including the Women in International Trade, SHRM, and National Trade Counsel conferences.

Previously a partner at Baker & McKenzie LLP, Krudewagen received her PhD, summa cum laude, and J.D. from the University of Cologne. In addition, she earned a LL.M. from the University of California at Berkeley. She is admitted to practice law in California, New York, England and Wales.
