Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP (JMBM) is pleased to announce the addition of Richard Whitlow, formerly of Jones Day, as Of Counsel in the Firm’s Patent Litigation Group. Whitlow’s practice focuses on patent and trade secret litigation, as well as patent prosecution and opinion work. He litigates matters relating to pharmaceuticals and chemical compounds as well as medical devices, cell phone technology, software, and electronic devices, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“We are pleased to have Richard on board,” said Stan Gibson, Chair of JMBM’s Patent Litigation Group. “Our clients will benefit from his science background as an academic, researcher and teacher, as well as from his legal skills.”

Gibson was recently quoted in the National Law Journal article, “Midsize Law Firms Upbeat – Cautiously – About 2012,” about the growth of JMBM’s patent litigation practice. “Large companies have realized they can get first-rate service and big firm legal expertise from midsize firms, without the big firm rates,” he told the Journal, adding that patent litigation at the Firm has doubled in the last year.

“I am excited about joining this dynamic group of lawyers,” said Whitlow. “The work at Jeffer Mangels is challenging and interesting, and I look forward to making a contribution to both the Firm and our clients.”

Whitlow will be located in JMBM’s Orange County office.
