International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP has expanded its Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice in Los Angeles with the arrival of new counsel Jason P. Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez spent eight years as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, two of which were as deputy chief of general crimes. He joins Nixon Peabody from Stroz Friedberg, an international digital risk management and investigations firm in Los Angeles, where he was managing director.

“Law enforcement is more aggressive today than ever before and government investigations can be serious, disruptive, and alarming. That is why it’s essential to have guidance from skilled attorneys who know the process inside and out,” said Edward C. O’Callaghan, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice. “Jason knows what it takes to help our clients protect their businesses, reputations, and legal rights in all forms of investigations and litigation.”

Mr. Gonzalez focuses his practice on digital forensic and cybercrime investigations, electronic discovery matters, critical infrastructure protection projects, and data breach response efforts. He has experience with complex white collar investigations involving online fraud, forgery of e-mail and documents, identity theft, employee misconduct, and theft of trade secrets for Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and law firms. Prior to serving as assistant U.S. attorney, Mr. Gonzalez was deputy city attorney in the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office.

“Jason’s arrival bolsters our already strong international white collar defense practice, especially on the West Coast as he joins partner Michael Zweiback in our Los Angeles office,” said Richard M. Jones, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office. “Together, they will focus on helping our clients manage even the most sensitive government investigations.”

Mr. Gonzalez earned his J.D. from Stanford University Law School, where he was a managing editor and symposium editor for the Stanford Journal of Law, Business, and Finance, and his B.A., with high honors, is from the University of Michigan.
