Sanjay Bhandari, an accomplished litigator known for his work in white collar criminal defense, corporate investigations, and intellectual property litigation, has joined Ballard Spahr as a partner in San Diego, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today.

Mr. Bhandari, who brings to the firm nearly two decades of legal experience with the federal government and in the private sector, has tried criminal cases involving charges of bribery, mail and wire fraud, money laundering, immigration and narcotics violations, securities fraud, and tax evasion. He also has tried civil cases involving allegations of breach of contract; copyright, patent, and trademark infringement; fraud; and wrongful termination.

Mr. Bhandari joins a premier group of white collar attorneys in Ballard Spahr’s San Diego office, further strengthening the firm’s growing litigation capabilities in California and the West.

“Sanjay has the qualities and experience that we and our clients look for in the increasingly important white collar area,” Mr. Stewart said. “His joining us in San Diego is a great boost to one of our strongest areas of practice.”

Mr. Bhandari’s private sector legal experience includes partnerships at two major law firms, where he handled government investigations and intellectual property litigation. He also was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of California and a Securities and Exchange Commission Enforcement Attorney in Washington, D.C.

As a government attorney, Mr. Bhandari conducted federal corruption investigations and prosecuted a number of complex and high-profile cases involving allegations of bribery and procurement and securities fraud.
