The global law firm Jones Day today has announced that Pat Swan has joined the firm as a partner in the Trial Practice, resident in the firm’s San Diego Office. Mr. Swan comes to Jones Day from Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps, where he was the partner-in-charge of the San Diego office and head of the firm’s white collar criminal defense practice group.

Mr. Swan is a trial lawyer representing clients in complex civil and criminal litigation in federal and state courts throughout California and the United States. He is active in a wide range of areas of the law, including intellectual property, trade secrets, business, environmental, securities, fraud, personal injury, product liability, white collar fraud, false claims, and commercial law.

Previously, Mr. Swan was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California from 1982-1990. As a federal criminal prosecutor, he tried complex criminal cases, and had extensive grand jury, jury trial, and appellate experience. In addition to being the head of Luce Forward’s San Diego office, he was a past member of that firm’s executive committee, past chair and vice chair of the business litigation practice group, and was the founder and leader of the white collar criminal defense practice group.

With Mr. Swan’s arrival, Jones Day has now added 21 lateral partners and of counsels from other law firms across its five California offices since the beginning of 2011. The San Diego office now has 42 legal professionals.

Mr. Swan earned his law degree from Duke University and his undergraduate degree in economics from Princeton University.
