Global law firm Dentons expanded its presence in the Bay Area today with the opening of an office in Oakland, located at 1999 Harrison Street.

“Our East Bay location, together with our downtown San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, is critical to providing legal service to our clients across the Bay Area, as well as to national and international clients with strategic interests in Northern California,” said Mike McNamara, Dentons’ US managing partner.

The Oakland office, located in the Lake Merritt Plaza in the Oakland Business District, occupies more than 29,000 square feet on the 12th and 13th floors. Charles Maher and Sonia Martin will continue to serve as co-managing partners of the San Francisco and Oakland offices.

“The additional space will enable the Firm to better serve clients throughout the Bay Area and operate in closer proximity to the many financial services, technology, biotech and online businesses that are populating the East Bay,” said Maher.

The 1999 Harrison Street property is a 27-story high-rise Class A office building with a one-story retail strip facing 20th Street and Lake Merritt, in the Lake Merritt/Uptown section of Oakland, three blocks from the 19th Street BART station. Completed in 1985, the building has approximately 479,062 square feet of office space and 10,986 square feet of retail space along with five levels of underground parking accessible from an entrance on Harrison Street. The property offers a number of amenities including secured bicycle parking, shower/locker rooms, retail shops, restaurants and onsite e-waste recycling.

“In addition to providing better service to our clients in California and around the world, the expansion into Oakland will significantly improve the work-life balance of many of our lawyers, professionals and business services staff members,” said Martin.

The expansion of Dentons’ San Francisco/Oakland office further extends the Firm’s reach in California. Dentons currently maintains offices in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego and Silicon Valley and recently welcomed former US Ambassador to Australia and former California State Bar Association president, Jeffrey L. Bleich, who joined as a partner and will be resident in the Oakland office.
