International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP is pleased to announce the addition of former California legislator Alyson Lewis Huber who has joined the firm’s Sacramento office as of counsel in the Governmental Affairs and Litigation practices. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Huber was a legislator for the 10th District.

While serving in the Assembly from 2008 to 2012, Huber specialized in accountability, oversight, and regulatory reform. She served on several committees including Higher Education; Water, Parks and Wildlife; Veterans Affairs; Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy; Joint Committee on Emergency Management; Select Committee on Wine; Select Committee on Lowering California’s High School Dropout Rate; and Judiciary committees. She authored legislation creating the Joint Sunset Review oversight committee and subsequently chaired it. This committee was charged with eliminating agencies, boards and commissions that were no longer necessary or cost effective. Huber was also a Commissioner on the Little Hoover Commission.

Prior to serving in the Legislature, Huber practiced law for nine years as a business litigator. She has represented clients in a variety of cases involving patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, defamation, bad faith, fraudulent transfers, joint ventures, insurance bad faith, breach of contract and elder abuse claims.

“I am so excited to be part of this stellar team,” said Huber. “While searching for a firm, I needed to make sure I found one that utilized both my legal skills and my experience in the Legislature, and Greenberg Traurig was a natural fit. With a footprint of 35 offices and 1750 attorneys worldwide, I can really leverage the platform to my clients’ advantage. I also appreciated the fact that the firm practices in almost all venues, and before almost all regulatory agencies and recognizes the importance of keeping current with changes in public policy.”

Jeffrey Leacox, co-managing shareholder of the firm’s Sacramento office, said, “We are thrilled that Alyson has decided to join us. She is an established governmental affairs professional and litigator and will be a terrific asset to our clients, this office, and the firm.”

Huber holds a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law and a B.S. in Communications, with honors, from Cornell University. Huber is active in the community and serves on several non-profit boards.
