Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce that Lena N. Bacani has joined the firm as counsel in the Los Angeles office.

Bacani has extensive experience counseling clients on all aspects of foreign and domestic intellectual property rights.

“Lena is a welcome addition to the firm, adding particular strength to the West Coast end of our national intellectual property team,” said Jeffrey S. Kravitz, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. “She possesses an impressive depth of experience handling IP litigation, prosecution, operational due diligence and licensing, allowing us to expand the depth and quality of services we provide to IP clients in California and beyond.”

Bacani joins Fox Rothschild at a time of rapid growth in its intellectual property services. The firm recently expanded its footprint to the Mountain West, opening an office in Denver, Colorado, where the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has announced it will open a regional facility. With this expansion, the firm welcomed partners Neal S. Cohen, Scott R. Bialecki and Mark L. Yaskanin, formerly with Bryan Cave LLP, broadening the firm’s patent prosecution and patent litigation capabilities in particular. The trio brings extensive experience in intellectual property, litigation and regulatory guidance.

In the past few months, Fox has also welcomed a number of other prestigious intellectual property attorneys, including Jeff E. Schwartz and Sunwoo Lee, Ph.D., to its Washington, DC, office, and James M. Singer, publisher of the nationally renowned “IP Spotlight” blog, to its Pittsburgh office.

Fox Rothschild is home to a nationwide team of more than 200 trial attorneys and a strong bench of IP services that includes more than 80 team members, many who possess Ph.D.s and other advanced degrees in various scientific and technical disciplines.

Bacani works with clients on all types of IP litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret cases. She often counsels clients regarding third-party IP claims, trade regulations and Customs compliance/enforcement issues, patent pools, indemnity provisions and global patent portfolios to develop risk mitigation, design-arounds and cross-licensing strategies. She has successfully represented clients across a wide range of industries, including consumer electronics, semiconductors, aerospace, telecommunications, software, medical devices and biotechnology. Bacani also has experience drafting and negotiating a variety of complex technology and business agreements.

Bacani is a former systems engineer for Lockheed Martin, where she advised members of the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense and third-party contractors on the Air Force Satellite Control Network and DoD satellite programs.

Bacani is a frequent presenter on topics related to intellectual property law, and recently presented at the University of Southern California on Medical Products and the Law, and to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Los Angeles Enterprise Chapter on IP law and government regulations restricting patentability of aerospace subject matter.

Bacani earned her J.D. from Loyola of Los Angeles Law School in 2000 and her B.S. in aerospace engineering from The University of Southern California in 1992.
